Because of the Internet, owning a business has never been more accessible than it has now. And let me tell you, there is nothing like waking up in the morning, jumping out of bed, and excitedly starting your day because you love what you do. The money can be good. But the feeling of doing what you love is great!
So what does it take to become an entrepreneur? Do you have it within you? Here are 5 traits I believe every entrepreneur needs:
1. Guts. Being an entrepreneur is not an easy job. It takes guts… a lot of guts. The easy route is to get up, hate your job, fight traffic, work 9 to 5. The harder – sometimes much harder – way is to give up the assurance of a paycheck for something much more enjoyable. If you’re thinking about becoming an entrepreneur, do you have the guts it takes?
2. Support. No entrepreneur I know did it on their own without any help from anyone. Perhaps they had a mentor. Maybe they had a good network of friends to blow off some steam after a frustrating day. Maybe they have a spouse who paid the bills for the first few months while the new business got off the ground. If you’re thinking about becoming an entrepreneur, do you have the support it takes?
3. A long term view. No business owner should get into business for the big windfall tomorrow. Business requires a long term view. Even if you’re the type of business owner who loves to start up businesses, make them successful, then sell them off… it can’t be done without a long term view of the future. It’s a combination of vision and planning and when these come together, a business is more likely to be successful. If you’re thinking about becoming an entrepreneur, do you have the long term view it takes?
4. Passion. If you don’t have an interest in what you’re doing, don’t bother doing it. I do what I do because I love to help people succeed. If you don’t love what you do, stop doing it and do something else. Find the thing that will make you happy and do that instead. Chasing dollars (quite often the alternative for people who don’t want to pursue their passion) only results in unhappiness. If you’re thinking about becoming an entrepreneur, do you have the passion it takes?
I believe it takes much more than products and a good website to become an entrepreneur. I think it takes guts, passion, support, and a long term view to truly succeed on your own terms.
But if you’re concerned that you don’t have these things… don’t worry! None of them are in short supply. I think all of them are acquired assets (meaning that you don’t have to be born having these things, you just have to know how to get them). Develop your network of friends, find a mentor, do things that you believe in. If you can’t start your business full time, try it part time: start with a single website and a single product and work your way up that way. Don’t try to start an entire comprehensive business. Build slow.
NetProfitSecrets has a variety of products that allow you to start slow and build your business in your part time rather than quitting your job and doing it fulltime.
